An interesting report today on Curbed.com…Chicago is looking to extend its riverwalk. Reading through this report, the part that catches my eye is the area that would be known as “The Swimming Hole”. It appears our mayor still thinks that at some point the River would be suitable for swimming.
As a sometimes-kayaker and former rower, there is one thing I can say with utmost confidence – one should touch the water in that river, let alone swim in it. I don’t believe I’ll ever see a day when the river is swim-mable. We’ve done too much damage over the years by being careless with this resource. Just my two cents. Perhaps the Mayor could focus more attention on ending our deficit…And with the cost of this project, it is no wonder our governments can’t balance a budget.
