In less than 5 months we could have a new president, and that’s going to affect our real estate market. Sellers need to be prepared that buyers may wait to make decisions as we get into October. The industry buzz on this issue is light, as we’re all working overtime in the busiest spring market in many years.
But we shouldn’t lose sight of the effect this event may have on our housing industry in the 4th quarter. My advice to sellers is simple: list and sell your home before September 15th. Once we pass that date, we will be sailing a sea of uncertainty. And we’ve seen that uncertainty cripple buyers’ decision making capabilities in the past. If you’re planning a move, don’t wait – try & do so before we hit election season. I expect a slow period from late September through the end of the year.
For buyers, that means that your options of new homes for sale may be limited if you hope to move by year’s end, but aren’t planning to start your search until after Labor Day.
