I’ve made a lot of progress the past few weeks with this room, which has been a difficult one for me.
The major challenge was working within the bathroom’s small space. I had already decided to go with a pocket door to maximize space (see previous post). Having plans and elevations drawn for the space, however, helped me visualize how the space would look. It also helped make 2 very important decisions: to reduce the vanity size from 36″ wide to 30″ wide, and to confirm a 6′ tub.
Of course, the prices on certain choices have been a concern. But i had to accept the fact that it would cost me $1,100 more for a 6′ tub and that overall that would be a wiser choice for functionality. I also settled on a tile choice for the shower surround, and a larger format of that same tile for the bath floor. Here they are:
Finally, my deal finding skills (which are only marginal at best) pushed me towards Lowe’s to find a quality vanity. I found this one below for $309 + tax and delivery (and for $59, delivery it is!). It matches nicely with the tile, and saved me about $400 from what I was previously looking at. And you know what? It will be just as nice! Here it is:
I also made the decision to go with towel bar within the shower, and only with hooks on the walls for remaining towels. My desire to put a mirror across the wet wall of the bathroom – to help the space feel larger – significantly impacted my ability for a towel bar. So I’m making lemonade out of my lemons.
