I was watching an episode of HGTV’s House Hunters, and the buyers were looking in Chicago. And, without fail – as too often seems to happen – the buyers saw a “penthouse”.
Now, I have to throw my opinion out here a little. When I hear penthouse, I envision the top of a 30, 40, 50 or 60 story building, with square footage unlike any other, views to absolutely die for, and luxury that I could most likely never afford.
This penthouse was the top floor of 3-story walk-up in Bucktown.
Do you see the difference? People, please, for the love of God….stop abusing the word penthouse! You aren’t fancy; calling your walk-up a “penthouse” is like referring to your Honda CR-V as a luxury sedan. Not that I have anything against Hondas, or Bucktown for that matter, but let’s all curtail our overuse of this once hallowed word!
